Description
The Holosun 407C X3 available at Defense Distributors is the 2026 update to one of the most popular pistol red dots on the market. It keeps what made the 407C a default choice, a clean 2 MOA dot, the industry-standard RMR footprint, Solar Failsafe, and Shake Awake, and reinforces the platform with the upgrades that come with the new X3 generation. If you want a simple, reliable, single-dot pistol optic and you want the latest hardware, this is it.
The 2 MOA dot is the whole idea here. It's a single, crisp aiming point with nothing else in the window, small enough for precise shot placement at distance but fast to find up close. There's no reticle to cycle through and no circle to clutter the glass, which is exactly what a lot of shooters want on a carry or duty pistol. If you'd rather have the option of a circle-dot reticle, that's the 507C X3 below; the 407C is the pure-dot version of the same optic.
What's new in the X3 generation is the build. Holosun moved to a reinforced 7075-T6 aluminum housing, added a 5000G vibration rating and IP67 waterproofing, and, the upgrade owners will appreciate most, switched to a side-loading CR1632 battery tray so you can change the battery without pulling the optic off your slide and re-zeroing. It also adds Lockout Mode to prevent accidental brightness changes during carry. Runtime is up to 100,000 hours, and Solar Failsafe provides backup power and automatic brightness assistance if the battery ever dies.
It mounts on the RMR footprint, the most widely supported optic cut in the industry, so it fits most optics-ready pistol slides directly or with a common plate. It comes in your choice of red, green, or gold dot. Browse the rest of our red dots and optics here.
407C X3 vs 507C X3
The only difference between the two is the reticle. The 407C X3 gives you a single 2 MOA dot, clean and simple. The 507C X3 gives you Holosun's Multi-Reticle System: the same 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle, or both together, switchable on the fly. Everything else, the housing, footprint, battery, runtime, features, is identical. Choose the 407C if you want a pure dot for less, the 507C if you want the circle-dot option.
407C X3 vs 407C X2
If you're deciding between this and the outgoing 407C X2, the X3 brings the reinforced 7075-T6 housing, the 5000G vibration rating, IP67, the side-loading battery tray, and Lockout Mode. The X2 is the proven previous generation and may come at a lower price as stock moves. If the side battery access and tougher build matter to you, go X3; if you want to save and the X2 is in stock, it's still an excellent optic.
Protect the Glass
The X3 shares the 507C/407C window, so the CovertArms 507C/407C ARD fits it, a honeycomb anti-reflection device that cuts glare and adds lens protection. For quick-reference pistol optic and zeroing info, our Combat Cards are handy to keep in your range bag.

FAQ
What's new in the X3 compared to the X2?
A reinforced 7075-T6 housing, 5000G vibration resistance, IP67 waterproofing, a side-loading battery tray, and Lockout Mode. The optical package (2 MOA dot, RMR footprint, Solar Failsafe, Shake Awake) carries over.
Can I change the battery without removing the optic?
Yes. That's the headline X3 upgrade. The CR1632 loads from a side tray, so you don't have to unmount the optic and re-zero to swap the battery.
What slides does it fit?
It uses the RMR footprint, the most widely supported pistol optic cut. It mounts directly to RMR-cut optics-ready slides, or to other slides with the correct adapter plate.
What's the difference between the 407C and 507C?
The 407C has a single 2 MOA dot. The 507C adds the Multi-Reticle System (2 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle, or circle-dot). Same housing and features otherwise. The 407C is the simpler, less expensive option.
Which dot color should I choose?
Red is the standard and most familiar. Green is easier for some eyes to pick up in daylight. Gold is a newer option some shooters find fast to acquire. All three are the same 2 MOA size; pick the one your eye likes best.
