Description

Most people who buy a radio end up putting it in a drawer. Not because they don't care, but because the manual is 60 pages of theory, the forums assume you already know the jargon, and nobody wants to be the guy who keys up and gets it wrong. These cards fix that. They put the information you actually need, channels, tones, offsets, procedures, in your pocket, in plain English, so you can pick up your radio and use it.

This is the radio-agnostic set: it covers how radio works, not how one specific radio works. GMRS channel frequencies with bandwidth and power limits. Key frequencies including NOAA weather, MURS, CB, and amateur calling frequencies. Repeater programming with offset examples. CTCSS and DCS tones with the standard tone tables. VHF versus UHF and when to use which. The NATO phonetic alphabet, prowords, RST reports, Q-codes, and CW procedure signals. Operating etiquette and how to make a contact without sounding lost. Line-of-sight and range fundamentals. Antenna types and what actually improves your signal. And a field troubleshooting guide for when something isn't working and you need to figure out why.

They're waterproof and tear-resistant, printed for readability in bad light, and small enough to clip to a go-bag, drop in a radio pouch, or leave in the truck console. They come with a keyring so they stay attached to the gear you'll have when you need them. No app, no battery, no signal required.

An honest note on what these are and aren't. These are a field reference, not a license course and not a substitute for your radio's manual. They won't teach you the regulations you need to pass a technician exam, and they won't show you which button on your specific radio opens the menu. What they do is answer the questions that actually come up when you're standing there with a radio in your hand, what's the offset for this repeater, what tone do I need, what's the NOAA frequency, how do I say this so I'm understood. For the model-specific button layouts and menu paths, that's what our radio-specific Comms Cards and Programming Cards are for.

New operators who want to stop guessing, and experienced ones who don't want to memorize a tone table. They work whether you're running a GMRS radio, a Baofeng, a handheld ham rig, a mobile setup, or an emergency comms kit. GMRS and amateur operators, preparedness and EMCOMM, off-road and overland groups, CERT and volunteer organizations, search and rescue, camping and backcountry, and anyone training up new radio users.

FAQ

How are these different from your Comms Cards?
These cover radio knowledge that applies to any radio: GMRS channels, tones, offsets, phonetics, Q-codes, etiquette, troubleshooting. Our Comms Cards are radio-specific, they show the button layout and menu paths for a particular model like the UV-5R. Most people end up wanting both: one tells you how radio works, the other tells you how your radio works.

Do I need a license to use a GMRS or ham radio?
Yes. GMRS requires an FCC license (no exam, covers your household), and amateur radio requires passing an exam, the entry-level technician license is straightforward. Receiving is always free. These cards are a field reference, not a study guide for either exam.

Will these work with my radio?
Yes. Nothing on these cards is model-specific, so they work with any GMRS radio, Baofeng, handheld ham radio, mobile rig, or comms kit. That's the point of this set.

Are they actually waterproof?
Yes. They're printed on waterproof, tear-resistant synthetic stock, built to survive rain, mud, and being shoved in and out of a pack. They're field gear, not paper.

I'm brand new to radio. Is this too advanced?
No, this is written for exactly that. Everything is in plain English, no assumed jargon, no gatekeeping. New operators use these to skip the frustrating part and start actually using their radio.
