Description
The Radian Raptor-SD is the suppressor-optimized version of Radian's ambidextrous charging handle. It does everything the standard Raptor does, full-size latches on both sides for fast charging from either hand, but adds a ported shaft that solves a specific, annoying problem: gas in your face when you shoot suppressed.
Here's why that matters. Running a suppressor (and to a lesser degree a short-barreled AR) raises back pressure in the system, and that extra gas finds its way back through the receiver and out the charging handle channel, right at your face. It stings the eyes and it's a real distraction over a long string. The Raptor-SD's shaft is ported to redirect that gas down and forward, away from you, so you can run suppressed without eating it. If you shoot suppressed regularly, this is the upgrade that addresses the most common complaint about doing so.
Outside of the gas porting, it's the same proven Raptor. The ambidextrous latches let you palm-blade or thumb-and-finger charge from the strong or support side, which makes one-handed manipulation and malfunction clearing easier than a milspec handle, and it installs drop-in with no modification on standard milspec AR-15/M16 uppers.
One honest note so you buy the right one: if you don't shoot suppressed, you probably don't need the SD. The gas porting is its entire reason for existing, and a non-suppressed shooter gets the same ergonomic benefit from the cheaper standard Raptor. Browse the rest of our AR-15 parts while you're here.
Which Raptor Do You Need?
The SD is one of a family. If you don't run a suppressor, the standard Raptor (all aluminum) or the lighter, cheaper Raptor-LT (polymer-overmolded latches) give you the same ambidextrous function without paying for gas porting you won't use. If you want the gas porting plus a slimmer profile, step up to the Raptor-SD-SL. Cross-shopping other brands? The Geissele Super Charging Handle is another ambi option we carry.

FAQ
Do I need the SD if I don't run a suppressor?
Probably not. The gas porting is the SD's whole purpose, and it only matters when you're shooting suppressed (or to a lesser degree with a short-barreled, high-back-pressure setup). If you shoot unsuppressed, the standard Raptor or Raptor-LT gives you the same ambidextrous function for less.
How does the gas porting work?
Suppressors raise back pressure, which pushes extra gas back through the receiver and out the charging handle channel toward your face. The SD's shaft is ported to redirect that gas down and forward, away from you.
Does it fit my AR-15?
Yes, if you have a standard milspec AR-15 or M16 upper. It installs drop-in like any charging handle, with no modification.
What's the difference between the SD and the SD-SL?
Both have the gas porting. The SD-SL adds a slimmer profile. If you want the lowest-profile suppressed setup, the SD-SL is the step up; otherwise the SD covers it.
Is it ambidextrous?
Yes. Full-size latches on both sides let you charge from the strong or support side by palm or thumb, which also makes one-handed manipulation easier regardless of dominant hand.
