Description

The Radian Raptor is an ambidextrous charging handle for AR-15 and M16 pattern rifles. A standard AR-15 charging handle only has a latch on the left side, which means you reach over or under the rifle to work it, and that gets awkward when you're behind an optic or trying to clear a malfunction with one hand. The Raptor puts a full-size latch on both sides and ties them together internally, so you can charge the rifle from the strong side or the support side using either your thumb and fingers or by slapping it open with the palm of your hand.

The two latches are large and aggressively textured, which is the practical part. You can find and operate them in the dark, with gloves on, or with wet hands, and you can drive the bolt back with the heel of your hand without fishing for a small tab. For a lot of shooters the bigger benefit isn't speed, it's that the support-side latch makes one-handed manipulation and malfunction clearing genuinely easier than a milspec handle allows.

It's machined in the USA from 7075 aluminum and milspec Type III hard anodized, so it holds up to the same abuse as the rest of the rifle. Installation is the same as any AR-15 charging handle and requires no modification. It fits standard milspec AR-15/M16 uppers, and Radian also lists it as compatible with AR-10 and SR-25 pattern rifles. You can find it and our other AR-15 parts in stock and ready to ship.

Where the Raptor Fits in the Lineup

The standard Raptor is the all-aluminum original. If you want options, the Raptor-LT is a lighter, lower-cost version with polymer-overmolded latches, the Raptor-SD is ported to redirect gas away from your face when shooting suppressed, and the Raptor-SD-SL combines the suppressor porting with a slimmer profile. If you're cross-shopping, the Geissele Super Charging Handle and Geissele Airborne are the other ambidextrous handles we carry.

FAQ

Does the Raptor fit my AR-15?
Yes, if you have a standard milspec AR-15 or M16 upper. It installs exactly like the charging handle that's already in your rifle. Radian also lists it as compatible with AR-10 and SR-25 pattern rifles.

Do I need any tools or gunsmithing to install it?
No. You pull your existing charging handle and bolt carrier, drop the Raptor in the same channel, reinstall the carrier, and you're done. No modification to the upper.

Is it actually useful for right-handed shooters?
Yes. Even if you're right-handed, the support-side latch makes it much easier to charge the rifle and clear malfunctions without breaking your firing grip or reaching over the optic. The ambidextrous design isn't only for lefties.

I've heard the latch sometimes doesn't go fully into battery. Is that real?
On some uppers, a few users have found the latch occasionally doesn't seat on its own when easing the bolt forward slowly, and needs a firm pull-and-release to lock. Charging the rifle normally, pulling fully to the rear and letting it go, seats it without issue. If you ride the bolt forward gently, that's when you may notice it. This is uncommon and tied to tolerance stacking between the handle and specific uppers.

What's the difference between this and the Raptor-LT?
The standard Raptor is all 7075 aluminum. The Raptor-LT uses the same aluminum core but adds fiberglass-reinforced polymer overmolding on the latches, which makes it lighter and less expensive while keeping the same ambidextrous function.
