Description

The Primary Arms SLx 3x Micro Magnifier takes the standard red dot magnifier and shrinks it. It delivers clean 3x magnification in a body that's noticeably smaller and lighter than a conventional magnifier, 2.83" long and 5.3 oz, which is the entire point. On a close-quarters carbine where handling speed and balance matter, that saved length and weight behind your optic is real. It extends the effective range of a red dot or 1x prism scope without turning your rifle into a nose-heavy setup.

Optically it does what a magnifier needs to do: 3x through a 21mm objective, a 7.0mm exit pupil, and 2.40" of eye relief, with a 35.2 ft field of view at 100 yards. Reviewers consistently say the glass holds its own against magnifiers costing considerably more, which is the SLx line's whole reputation, real performance at a price that doesn't sting.

One honest note about the tradeoff, because "micro" cuts both ways. The smaller 21mm objective means the eye box is tighter than a full-size magnifier's; you have to be a bit more deliberate about head position to get a clean sight picture. Most shooters adapt quickly and consider it a fair trade for the size and weight savings. If you shoot from awkward positions a lot and want the most forgiving eye box possible, a full-size magnifier is the more comfortable choice. If you want minimum bulk on a fast-handling carbine, this is the one.

It uses Primary Arms' 2-bolt direct-mount interface, so it bolts straight to a compatible mount rather than clamping into rings. That saves weight and eliminates any chance of the magnifier twisting or slipping. The mount is sold separately, the matching SLx Flip-to-Side Magnifier Mount is what most people pair it with, and it's what lets you swing the magnifier out of the way for close-range work. We carry it in black and FDE. Browse the rest of our optics and magnifiers here.

Running It Behind a Prism Scope

Worth knowing if you run a 1x prism instead of a red dot: some shooters have trouble getting a magnifier and a prism scope to focus together in the traditional setup with the magnifier behind the optic. The fix that works for many is counterintuitive, mount the magnifier in front of the prism scope. If you're pairing this with a 1x prism and the image won't come clear, try flipping the order before you assume something's wrong with the optic.

You'll Need a Mount

This magnifier uses PA's 2-bolt direct interface and does not include a mount. The SLx Flip-to-Side Magnifier Mount is the natural pairing, it sets a 1.41" centerline and includes spacers for 1.535" and 1.64" so you can line the magnifier up with your optic's height, and it flips aside for close-range shooting.

Other Magnifiers We Carry

Cross-shopping 3x magnifiers? The Holosun HM3X and Sig Juliet3 are other compact 3x options, and the EOTECH G33 is the proven full-size standard with a more forgiving eye box. For a red dot to pair with, the Sig Romeo 5 Gen 2 and Holosun ARO are solid choices.

FAQ

Does it come with a mount?
No. It uses Primary Arms' 2-bolt direct-mount interface, and the mount is sold separately. The SLx Flip-to-Side Magnifier Mount is the standard pairing and lets you swing the magnifier aside for close-range work.

What's the catch with a "micro" magnifier?
The smaller 21mm objective gives a tighter eye box than a full-size magnifier, so head position matters a bit more. Most shooters adapt fast and consider it worth the size and weight savings. If you want the most forgiving eye box, a full-size magnifier is more comfortable.

Will it work with my red dot?
Yes, it works behind any standard red dot. Just match the magnifier's centerline height to your optic's using the spacers included with the flip-to-side mount.

What if I'm using a 1x prism scope?
Some shooters can't get a magnifier and prism scope to focus together in the traditional behind-the-optic arrangement. Mounting the magnifier in front of the prism scope solves it for many people. Worth trying before you assume there's a defect.

How much does it weigh?
5.3 oz and 2.83" long, meaningfully smaller and lighter than a conventional magnifier, which is the whole reason to choose it.
