Description

The Holosun AEMS Core X2 is an enclosed-emitter red dot built for rifles, carbines, and shotguns. The AEMS (Advanced Enclosed Micro Sight) format is the sweet spot a lot of shooters land on: a wide, square-ish window that gives you a big field of view and fast both-eyes-open shooting, in a sealed housing that keeps mud, rain, and debris off the emitter so the dot never goes dark on you at the wrong moment. The "Core" is the streamlined version, a clean single 2 MOA dot, no extra reticle clutter, at a lower price than the multi-reticle model.

What's new in the X2 generation is the optics. Holosun reduced parallax by up to 50% over the original AEMS, which in plain terms means the dot stays truer to your point of aim even when your cheek weld is sloppy or you're shooting from an awkward position. That's exactly when a red dot usually lets you down, and it's the upgrade reviewers consistently call out as real rather than marketing. It also ships with a new four-post lower 1/3 co-witness mount at a 1.63" dot height, which co-witnesses with AR iron sights, and it stays backward compatible with original AEMS mounts if you already own one.

The 2 MOA dot comes in red, green, or gold. The gold option is worth knowing about: it's easier to see for shooters with color blindness, and many people with astigmatism report a cleaner, rounder dot in green or gold than they get from a red emitter. All three are the same crisp 2 MOA size. Brightness runs 12 settings (10 daylight plus 2 night vision compatible), and Shake Awake wakes the optic on movement and sleeps it when idle, which is part of how it hits up to 50,000 hours on a single CR2032.

The housing is 7075-T6 aluminum, IP67 waterproof, and rated to 1000G vibration, with a side-loading battery tray so you can swap the CR2032 without pulling the optic off the rail. Adjustment is 0.5 MOA per click with 50 MOA of travel. Browse the rest of our red dots and optics here.

Core vs Pro vs Max

The AEMS line steps up by features. The Core X2 (this one) is the single 2 MOA dot, the simplest and most affordable. The AEMS X2 Pro adds Holosun's Multi-Reticle System (dot, circle, or circle-dot) and a solar backup panel. The Ronin AEMS Max has an even larger window for the widest field of view. If you just want a clean dot for a fighting rifle, the Core is all you need; step up only if you specifically want the circle reticle or solar.

Protect the Glass

The wide front lens benefits from an anti-reflection device in bright light. The CovertArms AEMS ARD is a honeycomb killflash cut for the AEMS window that cuts glare and adds lens protection. For quick-reference optic setup and zeroing info in your range bag, our Combat Cards are handy to have.

FAQ

Is this a pistol or rifle optic?
It's a rifle optic. The AEMS is designed for rifles, carbines, and shotguns, and it ships with a lower 1/3 co-witness rifle mount. It's not a pistol-slide optic.

What's the difference between the Core and the Pro?
The Core X2 has a single 2 MOA dot and is the simpler, less expensive option. The AEMS X2 Pro adds the Multi-Reticle System (dot, circle, or circle-dot) and a solar backup panel. Get the Core if you want a clean dot; get the Pro if you want the reticle options.

Why would I pick the green or gold dot?
All three colors are the same 2 MOA size. Green and gold are often easier to see for shooters with astigmatism (the dot looks rounder), and the gold option specifically helps shooters with color blindness. Red is the familiar standard. Pick whichever your eye reads cleanest.

Does it co-witness with iron sights?
Yes. The included four-post mount is a 1.63" lower 1/3 co-witness height, which lines up with standard AR iron sights. It's also backward compatible with original AEMS mounts.

How long does the battery last?
Up to 50,000 hours on a single CR2032, helped by Shake Awake, which sleeps the optic when idle and wakes it on movement. The side-loading tray lets you change the battery without removing the optic.
