Description
The Holosun SCRS (Solar Charging Rifle Sight) is an ultra-compact, enclosed-emitter red dot built for rifles, carbines, and braced pistols. Its whole reason for existing is energy independence: it pairs a standard replaceable CR2032 battery with a solar charging system, so the solar keeps the optic running off available light and the battery is there as the backup you rarely have to think about. The result is a sealed, low-profile dot with about as little battery anxiety as a red dot can have.
It's the optic for shooters who want enclosed-emitter durability without the price of the premium names. At roughly $270 to $350 depending on configuration, it goes head to head with optics like the Aimpoint T-2 (which runs around $900), and reviewers consistently land on the same verdict: the SCRS delivers most of that performance for a fraction of the cost, and adds solar charging the Aimpoint doesn't have. It's also notably light at about 2.45 oz, so it doesn't weigh down a build.
The emitter is fully enclosed, which is the durability story: unlike an open red dot, the lens is sealed against rain, snow, dust, and carbon, so the dot stays clear and lit when an open optic would foul. It's available with a crisp 2 MOA dot (SCRS-RD-2) for simple precision, or Holosun's Multi-Reticle System (SCRS-RD-MRS) that switches between a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or both, for fast close-in work and precise shots from one optic. Both come in red or green; green reads brighter for many eyes.
It has multi-directional light sensors driving an Auto mode that sets dot intensity to the conditions, plus a Manual mode and Shake Awake to wake on movement and sleep when idle. Brightness runs 12 settings including night-vision-compatible levels. The housing is 7075 aluminum, IP67 waterproof and dustproof, and it ships with mounting hardware using Holosun's proven 509T footprint (the same pattern as the HE509T), so it's compatible with a wide range of third-party offset and riser mounts. 2 MOA Dot vs MRS: Which Reticle?
The SCRS-RD-2 gives you a single clean 2 MOA dot, simple, uncluttered, and fast for most shooting. The SCRS-RD-MRS adds the Multi-Reticle System: switch between the 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or both combined. The circle is faster to catch up close and gives a holdover reference, and you can shut it off to leave just the dot. Get the dot-only version if you like a clean sight picture and want to save a little; get the MRS if you want the flexibility.
Protect the Glass
The enclosed front lens benefits from an anti-reflection device in bright light. The CovertArms SCRS ARD is a honeycomb killflash cut for the SCRS that cuts glare and adds lens protection. Our Combat Cards are a handy quick reference for optic setup and zeroing in your range bag.
Other Rifle Optics We Carry
If you want a larger viewing window, the AEMS Core X2 and AEMS X2 Pro are wider-window enclosed rifle dots. For a non-solar enclosed option, the Holosun ARO is another rugged rifle dot.
Key Features
- Solar charging + CR2032. Solar runs the optic off available light; the replaceable battery is the backup you rarely touch.
- Enclosed emitter. Sealed against rain, snow, dust, and carbon for a clear, always-lit dot.
- Ultra-light. About 2.45 oz, one of the lightest enclosed rifle dots.
- Two reticle options. Clean 2 MOA dot or the Multi-Reticle System (dot, circle, or both).
- Auto and Manual modes. Multi-directional sensors set brightness automatically, or set it yourself.
- Shake Awake. Wakes on movement, sleeps when idle.
- 509T footprint. Ships with mounts and works with common third-party offset and riser mounts.
- Rugged. 7075 aluminum, IP67 waterproof and dustproof.

FAQ
Does the SCRS use a battery or just solar?
Both. It has a replaceable CR2032 battery (included) for up to about 50,000 hours, plus a solar charging system that runs the optic off available light and reduces battery drain. The solar means you rarely have to think about the battery, but it's a standard CR2032 you can swap when needed, not a sealed internal cell.
What's the difference between the SCRS-RD-2 and SCRS-RD-MRS?
The RD-2 is a single 2 MOA dot. The MRS version lets you switch between a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or both. Choose the dot-only for a clean sight picture, the MRS for reticle flexibility.
Is it a sealed, enclosed red dot?
Yes. The emitter is fully enclosed, so rain, snow, dust, and carbon can't foul it the way they can on an open red dot. The dot stays clear and lit.
How does it mount?
It uses Holosun's 509T footprint and ships with mounting hardware, including a lower 1/3 co-witness mount. Because it's the 509T pattern, it's also compatible with a wide range of third-party offset and riser mounts.
How does it compare to an Aimpoint?
The SCRS delivers most of the real-world performance of optics like the Aimpoint T-2 at roughly a third of the price, and adds solar charging the Aimpoint doesn't have, in a lighter package. If you need absolute top-tier ruggedness for issued/team use, the premium names still hold an edge, but for most shooters the SCRS is the better value.
