Description
The BTECH BF-F8HP Pro is the upgraded, do-more version of the radio that put BTECH on the map. Where the original BF-F8HP is a dependable 8W dual-band handheld, the Pro steps up to a tri-band transceiver with GPS, a color screen, and 10W of output. It transmits on 2m (VHF), 1.25m, and 70cm (UHF), receives across AM aviation, FM broadcast, NOAA weather, and wideband VHF/UHF, and holds 1,000 channels across 10 zones. If you want a single handheld that covers more spectrum and carries real navigation and situational-awareness features, this is the one to reach for.
The standout additions over a standard handheld are the ones you actually use in the field. Onboard GPS (GPS and BeiDou) puts your real-time position on the color screen and supports position data for coordination and navigation. The tri-band coverage adds 1.25m (the 222 MHz amateur band), which most radios skip and which stays less congested than 2m and 70cm. Ten watts of output gives you more reach than the 4-5W of a typical handheld when terrain gets in the way, and a 2,500mAh battery with USB-C charging keeps it topped off from any USB source. It's IP54 rated against dust and splashing, with dual independent zone monitoring so you can watch two zones at once.
Here's the straight version on frequencies, since it matters. The Pro transmits on the amateur bands per its FCC grant (2m, 1.25m, and 70cm) and receives much wider, including AM aviation (108-136 MHz), FM broadcast, NOAA, and wideband VHF/UHF. So you can monitor aviation, weather, and local traffic broadly while transmitting on the ham bands you're licensed for. Transmitting requires an amateur radio license; the entry-level technician ticket covers these bands.
Note on programming: our BF-F8HP Pro ships as the radio and accessories only, it does not come pre-programmed. You program it yourself over the keypad, or with CHIRP/CPS and a programming cable. If you'd rather it arrive ready to talk, see the programming options below. Browse the full range of radios and comms gear to kit it out.
Want It Programmed?
The Pro comes ready to program, not pre-loaded. If you want to skip the setup, we offer 62-channel programming and zip-code-based programming to load a ready channel lineup before it ships. To program it yourself, grab a programming cable and use free CHIRP software, and keep our ReadyRadio Comms Cards and Programming Cards on hand for the menu paths and channel reference.
Pro vs Standard BF-F8HP
If you're choosing between this and the standard BF-F8HP, the trade is capability versus simplicity and price. The standard F8HP is a proven, no-frills 8W dual-band handheld, a great, affordable workhorse. The Pro adds a third band (1.25m), GPS, a color screen, USB-C charging, 1,000 channels, and IP54 sealing. Get the Pro if you want the GPS, extra band, and modern features; get the standard F8HP if you want a straightforward high-power dual-band radio for less. If you want the upgraded UV-5R platform instead, the UV-5RM and GPS-equipped UV-32 are worth a look.
Kit It Out
It uses the standard Baofeng/BTECH K1 two-pin accessory port, so the usual accessories fit. Worth adding: a shoulder speaker mic so you can talk without pulling the radio off your kit, an upgrade flexible antenna over the stock whip, and a PTT Guard to protect against accidental keying.

FAQ
Does it come programmed?
No. Our BF-F8HP Pro ships as the radio and accessories only, not pre-loaded with channels. You can program it yourself over the keypad or with CHIRP and a programming cable, or add one of our programming services to have a channel lineup loaded before it ships.
Do I need a license to use it?
You can receive freely, but transmitting on the amateur bands requires an amateur radio license. The entry-level technician license covers the 2m, 1.25m, and 70cm bands the Pro transmits on.
What does the GPS do?
It provides real-time position (via GPS and BeiDou) on the color display for navigation and coordination. It's a feature a standard handheld doesn't have.
How is it different from the regular BF-F8HP?
The standard BF-F8HP is an 8W dual-band radio. The Pro adds a third band (1.25m), GPS, a color screen, USB-C charging, 1,000 channels across 10 zones, and IP54 sealing, with up to 10W output. It's the more capable, feature-rich version.
Will my Baofeng accessories work with it?
Yes. It uses the standard K1 two-pin accessory port, so mics, earpieces, programming cables, and antennas built for Baofeng/BTECH handhelds fit.
How do I program it myself?
Use the free CHIRP software (or BTECH's CPS) with a programming cable to build and load your channels from a computer, or enter them from the keypad. Our Comms Cards and Programming Cards walk you through the menu paths.
