Description
The Holosun Ronin AEMS Max is the widest-window red dot Holosun makes. Its 40mm × 30mm objective is the largest of any optic in their lineup, roughly 300% more viewing area than the standard AEMS, and that's the entire point of it. More glass means more situational awareness, faster target acquisition, and an easier time tracking targets on the move, whether you're running a shoot house, a competition stage, or a defensive carbine. If you've ever felt boxed in by a small red dot window, this is the answer.
It's a collaboration with Tu Lam of Ronin Tactics, which is where the name and the styling come from: the iconic Ronin dragon logo engraved on the housing and clean black-on-black stealth markings. Under the looks it's a serious enclosed-emitter optic. The emitter is fully sealed against rain, mud, snow, and debris, so the dot stays clear and lit where an open red dot would foul, and it ships with removable flip-down clear lens covers to protect the glass.
It uses Holosun's Multi-Reticle System, so you can switch between a 2 MOA dot for precision, a 65 MOA circle for fast close-range acquisition, or both combined, and it comes with a red or green reticle. Power is handled three ways for genuine reliability: a CR2032 in a side-loading tray (up to 50,000 hours, swappable without removing the optic), Solar Failsafe that runs the optic off available light and assists brightness in Auto mode, and a built-in supercapacitor that keeps the dot lit for around 200 more hours even with no battery or light. Between the three, going dark is about as unlikely as it gets.
The housing is 7075-T6 aluminum, IPX8 waterproof, with Shake Awake to wake on movement and sleep when idle, 12 brightness settings (8 daylight, 4 night-vision compatible), and 0.5 MOA clicks. It ships with a lockable lower-1/3 co-witness Picatinny mount. See the matching AEMS Max ARD below and browse the rest of our red dots and optics.
A Note on Mounting
Because the window is so much larger, the AEMS Max uses its own footprint, it does not share the standard AEMS footprint, so regular AEMS mounts won't fit it. It comes with its own lockable lower-1/3 co-witness Picatinny mount, which gives you an absolute or lower-1/3 co-witness with iron sights depending on your rail height. One honest heads-up: earlier production AEMS Max units shipped with a QD lever mount, while the current version ships with a thumbscrew mount. If a quick-detach lever specifically matters to you, confirm which version you're getting.
How It Compares to the Other AEMS Optics
The Ronin AEMS Max is the biggest-window option in the family. If you want the enclosed AEMS performance in a smaller, lighter, less expensive package, the AEMS Core X2 (single 2 MOA dot) and AEMS X2 Pro (multi-reticle and solar) use the standard AEMS window and footprint. Get the Max if maximum field of view is the priority; drop to the Core or Pro if you want a lighter, more compact enclosed dot.
Protect the Glass
The big front lens benefits from an anti-reflection device in bright conditions. The CovertArms AEMS Max ARD is a honeycomb killflash cut specifically for the Max's oversized window. Our Combat Cards are a handy quick reference for optic setup and zeroing.

FAQ
What makes the Ronin AEMS Max different from the standard AEMS?
The big one is the window: 40mm × 30mm versus the standard AEMS's smaller window, about 300% more viewing area. It's also a Tu Lam / Ronin Tactics collaboration with unique styling, and it uses its own footprint and mount.
Will standard AEMS mounts fit it?
No. Because the window is so much larger, the AEMS Max has its own footprint, so regular AEMS mounts don't fit. It ships with its own lockable lower-1/3 co-witness Picatinny mount.
Is the mount a QD lever or a thumbscrew?
It changed between production runs. Earlier AEMS Max units shipped with a QD lever mount; the current version ships with a thumbscrew mount. If a QD lever is important to you, confirm which version you're getting.
Does it support night vision?
Yes. It has 4 night-vision-compatible brightness settings among its 12 levels for passive aiming setups.
What happens if the battery dies?
You've got two backups. Solar Failsafe runs the optic off available light, and a built-in supercapacitor holds about 200 hours of reserve illumination even with no battery or light. Plus the CR2032 itself is good for up to 50,000 hours and swaps from a side tray without removing the optic.
