Description

The Holosun ARO (Advanced Rifle Optic) is an enclosed-emitter 2 MOA red dot built for AR-15s, carbines, and PCCs. Enclosed-emitter means the LED sits inside a sealed tube rather than out in the open like a pistol-style reflex sight, so mud, snow, rain, and pocket lint can't block the dot. That's the whole pitch: it's a duty-grade enclosed dot in the Aimpoint T2 size and footprint, at a fraction of the T2's price.

It uses the T2 (micro) footprint, which is the most widely supported mounting standard for optics this size, so it works with the huge range of T2 mounts already on the market. You're not locked into anything proprietary. It also ships with two picatinny mounts in the box: a 1.63" lower-1/3 co-witness mount for an AR, and a 1.05" low mount for flat-top or lower-comb setups. For most AR builds you can mount it and zero it without buying anything extra.

The 22mm window and crisp 2 MOA dot make it quick to get on target, and the enclosed design keeps the sight picture clean in bad weather. It runs Shake Awake, so it sleeps after about ten minutes of stillness and wakes the moment you move the rifle, meaning the dot is already on by the time the gun is up. Holosun rates the CR2032 at up to 50,000 hours, and the battery loads from a side tray so you don't have to pull the optic off and re-zero to change it.

It's machined from 6061 aluminum with a low-glare finish and sealed to IP67, so it handles weather and hard use. If you want to reach past red-dot distance, it pairs with the Holosun HM3X 3x magnifier, which is sized to mate with the ARO's 22mm housing. Browse the rest of our red dots and optics if you're comparing.

Mount It Higher

Running night vision or want a heads-up passive-aiming position? The Overbore Systems Night-Height Micro Mount raises the ARO to a 2.33" optical height for passive aiming behind a night vision device.

How It Compares

Want this same optic in a different color? The Holosun ARO in FDE is the flat dark earth version. If you want a larger window, the Holosun AEMS Core X2 steps up to a wide rectangular sight picture, and the solar-backed Holosun SCRS is another enclosed 2 MOA option.

Key Features

  • Enclosed emitter. Sealed tube keeps the dot visible in rain, snow, mud, and dust.
  • 2 MOA dot. Fast up close, precise enough for hits out to red-dot distance and beyond.
  • T2 footprint. Compatible with the wide range of existing Aimpoint T2-pattern mounts.
  • Two mounts included. 1.63" lower-1/3 co-witness mount and 1.05" low mount in the box.
  • Shake Awake. Sleeps when idle, wakes on movement so the dot is ready when you are.
  • Side-loading battery. CR2032 swaps from the side without removing the optic or losing zero.
  • 6061 aluminum, IP67. Sealed and finished for weather and hard use.

FAQ

What's the ARO best suited for?
Primary optic on an AR-15, PCC, or carbine, and it works well as an offset/backup dot on a rifle running a magnified optic. It's a rifle dot, not a pistol slide optic.

What does "enclosed emitter" mean and why does it matter?
The LED that projects the dot sits inside a sealed tube instead of being exposed like an open reflex sight. That means rain, snow, or debris on the front lens can't block the dot the way it can on an open optic. It's the more weather-reliable design.

Does it come with a mount?
Yes, two of them: a 1.63" lower-1/3 co-witness mount for ARs and a 1.05" low mount. Most shooters won't need to buy a separate mount. If you want a taller night vision height, the Overbore Night-Height Micro is an option.

What mounts does it fit?
It uses the T2 (micro) footprint, so it's compatible with the wide range of Aimpoint T2-pattern mounts already on the market in addition to the two mounts it ships with.

Is it compatible with night vision?
Yes. Two of the brightness settings are night vision compatible for use behind a night vision device.

How long does the battery last?
Holosun rates the CR2032 at up to 50,000 hours, which is years of normal use. Shake Awake extends that further by sleeping the optic when it's not moving.
